Need some excitement? Throw a

THEME PARTY!

Actually any promotion you plan should be centered around some theme or another, and can be anything from a sporting event to a popular TV show. You're limited only by a lack of either imagination or desperation.

Some of our favorites include:

Calendared Holidays
Mardi Gras
Valentine's Day
Christmas
Cinco de Mayo
Mother's Day
Elvis' Birthday
4th of July
End of the Month
Halloween
Thanksgiving
Chases' Annual Events (available at most libraries) has a very complete listing of these types of dates.

Exotic Locales
Carribean
Mexican
Hawaiian
Beach Themes

TV Shows
Brady Bunch
Melrose Place Parties
Friends
M.A.S.H.
Green Acres

The above might not really excite you initially, but they are good general themes that will give you a framework within which it is easy to plan some fun activities. For example, a successful promotion centered around a TV show might include:

1. changes in room decor and employee dress
2. theme-related food and drink specials
3. look-alike contests
4. trivia contests
5. skill contests
6. appearances by the show's stars or related personalities

Using the above list, you can throw a Green Acres Party easily. First, decorate the club as much like a farm as possible, beginning with bales of hay and farm implements, and outfit the employees in jeans and flannel shirts. Next, create a drink to reflect the theme, such as a "Hooterville Howler", and run a Lisa Look-Alike/ Zsa Zsa Gabor Contest (one club called this the best hooters in Hooterville). Ask trivia questions related to the show throughout the night, like "What was Eb's last name?"; do this using voice-overs or a running LED sign. Finally, have quickie contest related to some farm skill, such as hog calling. You can see that, even using an old show, this list could go on and on.

Generally, if you select a theme and use the above 6 point list, making sure that there is at least one activity for each point, you'll end up with a fairly decent event. That's assuming the activities used show some imagination and tie well into the theme.
